AGIdeas in review and We Buy Your Kids

WE BUY YOUR KIDS - RISO PRINT (ABOVE)

MICHEL BOUVET - Theatrical Poster (BELOW)

I've been sitting in Hamer Hall in Melbourne the last three days listening to some amazing (and not-so-amazing) speakers, delivering their thoughts on design and it's place in our society.
I've come away from it inspired to keep doing what I do (not that I was going to stop) and more enlightened having discovered artists such as Theo Jansen and Michel Bouvet (amazing poster artist from France - his work is pictured above).
Sonny Day and Biddy Maroney who make up We Buy Your Kids also spoke, they are represented by the same agency as me. They had some signed RISO prints for sale at the Magnation store that was set up for the event, at $30 a pop I couldn't not buy one. There were four to choose from and I scored the one pictured at the top of this post. I love that it's black and evil and a little bit Neckface. It's gone on the pile of prints waiting to be framed, a work in progress - I'm adding to this collection whenever I see something amazing that won't let me part with it. The most recent aquisitions prior to todays are some Amy Dover's and Marylin Neuhart's. It's going to be the most kick ass wall of images.... I can't wait till it comes together xxx

THEO JANSEN

I attended Day 2 of the AGIdeas Design Conference today. It's been slightly dissapointing as it feels much more student focused than industry focused, but there's been some real highlights. So far, a talk this morning by Theo Jansen WOW'd me like I haven't been WOW'd in a while. This humble genius shared his knowledge and passion for his kinetic sculptures with us, the audience in the palm of his hand. As he spoke about his philosophies and methodologies behind his marriage of Art and Engineering, I felt as if I was in the presence of someone truly great. I've no doubt this guy will be in the history books in centuries time for these innovations. I'd recommend the clip I've posted, and also getting to see him if ever you get the chance.
